In the Tomtes' World
When you step through the gates of Tyynelä, it feels like a magical journey back to childhood. In every corner, there is something interesting to look at and you can see Tyynelä's tomtes and their friends peeking in through the windows. Your whole body fills with warmth, and you feel like a child again. The story begins inside, where you find the various tomtes, each of which has their own story to tell. There have been so many over the years that Eija Porkola has lost count of how many she has made. In addition, many of the tomtes have moved to new homes: visitors to Tyynelä have been so taken by the tomtes that they decide to take one home. To honor Finland's centenary, Eija has promised to make a limited run of 100 special tomtes, each with their own personality. Tyynelä's yard is full of fantastical details. Besides the tomte manor you can also find the Churchwarden's house on the grounds, which serves as a cafe during Christmas and summer. The tomte manor can be rented for various events, like weddings, birthdays, meetings, etc...
During the summer, there is even a toy and wedding museum on the premises.
Eija, who had worked previously as an antique dealer, has decorated Tyynelä with furniture and small decorative touches that take us back to childhood. The tomte manor's collection of Christmas decorations is not to be missed, they are sure to make you feel warm and cozy inside.
One thing is certain, a visit to Tyynelä is like stepping into a fairy tale. You go home with a big smile on your face.
